Randomness as usual

It has been absolutely AGES since my last post. This is a new record for laziness even for me. Its been at the top of my list of things to do for at least 3 weeks now, but since I haven’t look at the list for 2 of those weeks, I didn’t remember. (Looking at my list of things to do was on the top of my tasks list on my phone, but its easy enough to mute the little alarm that rang every morning for a week before sadly giving up.)

Well how’ve you been and all that? Things have been quite hectic here. I had a friend over from university last week. Hate when that happens. Throws you totally off balance. Its so much fun, so comfortable. Brings back old memories, makes you wish you were 18 again, just going away to university for the first time. Also makes it a lot more difficult to forget about 22nd birthdays coming up faster than you want them to. I don’t think you’re meant to start hiding your age until you turn 30, but I’ve decided to start early so people don’t get suspicious later. Its just good planning I think! Of course, almost every friend I’ve said this to has told me about a senile grandmother or old aunt who pretends to be 10 years younger than their real age, which is making me re-think my decision just a bit.

But I digress (well there isn’t really a point to this post so nothing to digress from but I’ve always to say that). I’ve been reading a lot of Calvin and Hobbes lately. I LOVE that kid. He makes so much sense! My favourite I think is the one where Calvin calls his dad to tell him that its a beautiful day outside and that he should climb a tree. Then he tells Hobbes whose sitting beside him that since his dad always imposes his views on him, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t either! (Ok, I’ve totally ruined that I know and it doesn’t seem funny at all anymore. I never tell people jokes. I always SMS them or e-mail. For some reason I can never pull off the punchline. Anyway I’ll try to get the strip from somewhere and put it up. I have it stuck to my table at work, and I laugh everytime I look at it. The guy who sits next to me gives me a strange look everytime I do that. He doesn’t have much of a sense of humour.) Another really good one is where Calvin and Hobbes are looking at this snowman with a hot water bottle on his head. Hobbes asks Calvin why he has a hot water bottle on his head, and Calvin replies-’He’s committing suicide’! Bill Watterson was a genius! (Him and A.R. Rahman. Absolute geniuses.)

Not much happening otherwise I’d say. Things are going well with SearchMyCampus. We’re trying to think of names to call our company (when we create it) and we’ve had the strangest suggestions. I thought Earthworm would be an interesting name for us (there’s a long story behind it which I won’t go into right now, but I’m sure you’d totally understand why it makes complete sense if you knew it) but no one else agreed for some reason. Yahoo and Facebook aren’t the cleverest names either but they’re doing well enough aren’t they now! Oh well, guess we’ll have to keep thinking some more.

 We’re also thinking of adding more features to the website. It is still essentially a classifieds website, but we want to have a little bit more information about basic services available around various campuses such as accommodation, tutors, bookshops etc. so we’ve decided to add discussion forums. We’re hoping that if freshers are able to discuss their accommodation requirements, expected living expenses, learn a bit about car pool options, events etc. from more experienced students, they’d find it more useful than just looking at advertisements.   Those should be live in about a week’s time so definitely come by and take a look. It promises to be quite interesting.

We’re also hiring still. Campus representatives and bloggers are always needed of course. We’re also looking for developers, web designers and internet marketing people. Damn electricity just went so my internet’s gonna switch off soon. Better wrap up. (No we don’t live in the dark ages (pun intended :d), but we do have power cuts that last bout 15-20 minutes occassionally. Hey, nothing’s perfect right? We also got the Taj Mahal so that balances the power cuts and the bad traffic. Against the pollution we have the best flea markets ever, and so on. Its probably a good thing that I have to turn this thing off anyway coz I’m beginning to talk rubbish now and I need to make myself stop.
